All graduates are welcome to wear traditional dress in a manner that celebrates their heritage with or instead of the gown. In those instances, graduates must still wear their ceremonial hood.

An Elder will be present on stage during Convocation to honour and celebrate the accomplishments of graduates who are Indigenous to North America (Turtle Island). Each Indigenous graduate will be gifted a traditional medicine pouch as a symbol of support and pride from the Elder.

We also offer Indigenous graduates the opportunity to wear a stole during the ceremony as a visible recognition of their achievement. If you would like to be recognized by the Elder and/or are interested in borrowing a stole to wear during Convocation, please contact us at convocation@dal.ca.
